PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a target support device capable of suppressing that draw-in force operating on a target via a draw-in hole becomes excessive even when volume of a first space region in a chamber corresponding to the target supported on a support surface of a support member is lessened, and to provide a recording apparatus comprising the target support device. SOLUTION: A platen unit 31 comprises: a platen 61 which has a support surface 61a capable of supporting a continuous paper 12 and has a plurality of suction holes 62 formed on the platen; a chamber 74 which is disposed on the opposite side to the support surface 61a on the platen 61 so as to be communicated with respective suction holes 62; division plates 70 which divide the interior of the chamber 74 volume-variably into a negative pressure-forming space region 75 corresponding to the continuous paper 12 on the support surface 61a, a front side adjoining space region 76 and a back side adjoining space region 77; and a suction device 78 which draws-in the negative pressure-forming space region 75. Between the negative pressure-forming space region 75, and the front side adjoining space region 76 and back side adjoining space region 77 in the chamber 74, clearances 73 for communicating the space regions are disposed.
