<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To suppress self-exciting vibration generated during crushing without increasing energy consumption required for crushing in the vertical mill, and to quickly deal with so as to suppress the self-exciting vibration in the event of the occurrence. Ž<P>SOLUTION: The vertical mill includes: a housing 3 in which a classification chamber 9 is formed; a crushing table 6 which is stored in the lower part of the housing and rotatably driven; a plurality of roller pressurizing devices 12 which pressurizes a pressure roller 16 to the crushing table to crush coal on the table; and a coal feeding device 4 for feeding lumps of coal to the crushing table. The coal feeding device includes a raw coal feeder 29 for feeding raw coal and a lumpy coal mass feeder 30 for feeding lumpy coal masses whose particle size is larger than that of the raw coal, wherein raw coal and lumpy coal masses are fed to the crushing table by the raw coal feeder and the lumpy coal mass feeder respectively.
