<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an apparatus and a method for growing a crystal capable of using a quartz crucible for a long term and improving the operational efficiency. <P>SOLUTION: The apparatus for growing the crystal is equipped with a crystal growth furnace 9 equipped with a quartz crucible 1, a precursor melting furnace 10 and a supplying means 22 which repetedly supplies a melted precursor 3 from the precursor melting furnace 10 to the quartz crucible 1. The crystal growth furnace 9 has a supply port which supplies the melted precursor 3 and the supply port 21 may be made to freely contact with and separate from the precursor melting furnace 10. Besides, a plurality of the crystal growth furnaces 9 may be arranged around the precursor melting furnace 10. Moreover, the precursor melting furnace 10 may be equipped with a means for separating an undissolved substance. In the method for growing a crystal, the quartz crucible 1 is filled up with the melted precursor 3 which was melted beforehand.
