FORM READING DEVICE AND FORM DETECTING METHOD

A form reading device (1) is provided with a camera (3) for capturing an image of an information-recorded surface of a passport (P) wherein information readable using a predetermined wavelength for reading is recorded, an illumination part (4) for performing illumination of the wavelength for reading toward the information-recorded surface, an LED (8) for performing light emission for detection of the passport (P) from the rear side of the information-recorded surface using another wavelength for detection which is different from the wavelength for reading, and a control part (9) for controlling the form detection by the camera (3) and the light emitted from the LED (8). The form reading device (1) detects mounting of the passport (P) from the luminance level of light emitted from the LED (8) for detection when the image is captured. Light emitted from the LED (8) for detection is controlled to be turned off after the detection of the form is completed. Therefore, the form reading device allowing the detection of the passport by simple configuration is provided.
