897,782. Boots; hats etc.; felting. HUCHLER, G. June 17, 1958 [June 21, 1957], No. 19294/58. Drawings to Specification. Classes 17(2) and 63 [Also in Group VIII] In the formation of felt articles, boots, hats, &c. from flat fibrous material, adjoining edge portions are united, during the felting of the whole article, by felting together bluntly abutting edges without overlapping so that the region of the seam has the same thickness as, but contains a larger number of relatively short fibres per unit volume than, the rest of the material. The prepared flat pieces of material are cut using a stencil or template, allowance being made for shrinkage during felting. The edges may be held together temporarily by a zig-zag sewing, by clamps or by hand. Sewing threads may be removed after felting; if retained they become slack during shrinking and act like the fibres of the material. The felted article may be subjected to known further treatment either mechanical or chemical and the fibrous material may be formed of layers of different density, quality or colour. |
