PURPOSE: An image capturing apparatus and an image capturing method are provided to determine aperture control and focus control according to the number of faces detected from an imaging control unit and selected faces, thereby easily performing best iris diaphragm or focus control. CONSTITUTION: A DSP(Digital Signal Processor)/CPU(Central Processing Unit)(120) detects face of individual from image data. The image data is obtained from an imaging device. A handling member(135) selects one or a plurality of faces among faces. The faces are detected by the DSP/CPU. A photographing control unit(126,127) determines aperture control and focus control according to the number of detected faces and selected faces.
