PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an imaging apparatus and a control method of the imaging apparatus for correcting inclination of an image with accuracy. SOLUTION: The imaging apparatus has an imaging element 221 for outputting a subject image as image data and a gradient sensor 227 for detecting inclination of a rolling direction of the imaging apparatus, and controls the angle of the image data output region of the imaging element 221, according to the inclination of the imaging apparatus. Also, when the inclination of the imaging apparatus is in the range of -45°to 45°, control is performed so that the angle of the image data becomes substantially 0°; when the inclination of the imaging apparatus ranges from 45°to 135°, control is performed so that the image data are at substantially 90°; when the inclination of the imaging apparatus ranges from 135°to 225°, control is performed so that the angle of the image data becomes substantially 180°; and when the inclination of the imaging apparatus ranges from 225°to 315°, control is performed so that the angle of the image data becomes substantially 270°.
