<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To solve the problem that, when continuous long-time moving images are recorded in a DICOM format, it is necessary in some cases to divide the image into a plurality of files and when divided, each of the files may be recognized as independent contents and playback of videos may be finished in the end of the file. Ž<P>SOLUTION: The present invention relates to an image recording and playback apparatus comprising: a DICOM processing section for generating a DICOM image file by converting input image data into a format specified by DICOM standards in accordance with instructions from an operating section; and a connection information processing section in which, when a plurality of DICOM image files are generated from a series of input image data, file connection information is generated for logically connecting the plurality of DICOM image files and described in the plurality of DICOM image files.
