<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a technique capable of appropriately correcting the influence of wave length variation caused by the driving electric current of the light source of a reader and performing a highly precise color calibration. <P>SOLUTION: Based on the results obtained by driving the light source of the reader by a plurality of different driving electric currents and by detecting the amounts of reflected light on respective electric current values respectively in a test pattern for calibration printed on a medium and the blank region of the medium, a correction factor for correcting the detection by the reader is obtained. The results obtained by detecting the amounts of the reflected light of the test pattern by the reader are corrected using the correction factor obtained above, and a lookup table is prepared based on the results of correction.
