<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image display device displaying an image suitable to a viewing environment by estimating a brightness sensing area of eyes of a viewer from a wide-angle luminance. <P>SOLUTION: The display device 10 includes a display luminance calculation unit 1, a wide-angle luminance acquisition unit 2, a luminance correction unit 3, and a display 4. The wide-angle luminance acquisition part 2 acquires a wide-angle luminance in the display 4 direction from the viewer. Using an average of a display luminance and the wide-angle luminance, a brightness sensing curve function showing a relationship between brightness and the display luminance is generated. An upper limit/lower limit luminance at which the viewer can sense a difference of brightness in the environment is calculated based on the acquired wide-angle luminance, and using the calculated upper limit/lower limit luminance, a corrected display luminance Lc is calculated.
