<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a separate sensor that synchronizes a light transmitting means with a light receiving means without using a control line. Ž<P>SOLUTION: The separate sensor 1 includes a light transmitting unit 10 and a light receiving unit 20. The light transmitting unit 10 includes a light source wirelessly transmitting a synchronizing light beam for synchronizing with the light receiving unit 20. The light receiving unit 20 includes: a synchronization instruction switch receiving an instruction to start synchronization by being automatically depressed when an enclosure cover in an enclosure of the light receiving unit 20 is closed; a storage unit storing a synchronization flag that specifies whether the synchronization has been established or not; a light receiving element receiving the synchronizing light beam; and a synchronization unit performing processing for establishing synchronization on the basis of the synchronizing light beam received by the light receiving element. The synchronization unit performs processing for synchronization when the enclosure cover is closed and the instruction to start synchronization is received by the synchronization instruction switch, and also when the synchronization flag is not stored in the storage unit.
