PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To allow a broadband video signal to be transmitted between broadcasting devices with a simple configuration. SOLUTION: A broadband video signal transmission/reception system 101 includes: a super high definition camera 2; a recording and reproducing device 3; a super high definition display device 4; an optical transmission line 5; a broadband video signal transmission device 10 which multiplexes HDTV (High Definition TeleVision) signals into a multiplexed signal with the small number of channels on the basis of mapping information and converts the multiplexed signal to an optical signal to transmit it; and two broadband video signal reception devices 20 which convert an optical signal received from the broadband video signal transmission device 10 to an electric multiplexed signal and decode this multiplexed signal into HDTV signals on the basis of mapping information.
