<p>A commode (10) for use by an infirm person consists of a wheeled frame (12) for wheeling the commode to a location convenient for an infirm person to use it, a toilet seat (14) mounted in the frame (12) together with a receptacle (20) also mounted in the frame (12) for receiving and storing excrement therein when the commode (10) is used, the receptacle (20) being adapted to be removable from the or frame (12) for emptying the excrement therefrom after use and cleaning means for cleaning the person's anal and/or genital area after use of the commode (10) whilst seated thereon, said cleaning means including a supply of cleaning liquid and a power operated pump for supplying the cleaning liquid under pressure in the form of a jet or spray onto the area of the person to be cleaned.</p>
