PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a system and method for providing ring back tones (RBT) in a communication network so as to satisfy individualization requirements of subscribers through playing different rings such as music to different subscribers. SOLUTION: RBT service register information includes at least identification information indicating whether or not a subscriber is a RBT service registered subscriber and routing information of a RBT device. In accordance with information of a called subscriber corresponding to the identification information received from HLR, an originating switching device determines whether the called subscriber is a RBT service registered subscriber. If a result of the determination is positive, a connection is established between the originating switching device and a terminating switching device and in accordance with the routing information of the RBT device in subscriber information of the called subscriber, a connection is established between the switching device and the RBT device.
