<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a thin surface illumination device of low electric power consumption capable of displaying an image of high contrast ratio, by propagating a laser beam through an optical fiber, a space or the like, to get incident from a side face part of a light guide panel, by accumulating the laser beam of prescribed light volume in the light guide panel, and by emitting it from only a division part of the light guide panel selected by a control part, and to provide a liquid crystal display using the same. <P>SOLUTION: This surface illumination device includes the light guide panel 18 for making a scanning light 16 emitted from a light guide part 15 get incident from at least any of the side face parts 17, and a photoreception part 20 for detecting a laser scanning light 19 advancing through an inside of the light guide panel 18, each side face part 17 is arranged with a reflecting part 24 for reflecting the laser scanning light 19 to an outside, the second main surface part 13 of the light guide panel 18 has the plurality of division parts 25, and the control part 21 selects the division part 25 of the second main surface part 13 by a selecting part 26, to emit an output light 11 from the first main surface part 12. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2010,JPO&INPIT |
