PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an initialization device which improves production efficiency by preventing at low cost the incompatibility of gearshift operation, a gearshift defect, and a wrong gearshift of an automatic transmission whose gearshift operation is performed by an electric drive means. SOLUTION: In this initialization device of the automatic transmission, a first electric drive means 701 is operated until a part of a shift member, whose axis is directed to a select direction B intersecting the shift direction A perpendicularly and which is movable in the same select direction, contacts a reference surface 1A provided in the automatic transmission. After being brought into contact with the reference surface 1A, the first and second electric drive means 701, 702 are operated until an arm member corresponding to a target shift lug member contacts the target shift lug member of the shift rail members operating a reference gearshift out of a plurality of shift rail members that perform the shift operations of a plurality of gearshifts by moving in the shift direction.
