PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a paper feed roller capable of surely gripping and delivering the top paper, and preventing the occurrence of double feed of paper or a phenomenon causing creases in the paper. SOLUTION: This paper feed roller includes a circumferential conveyance surface 80 with a cut-circle part 79 formed by eliminating a part of the circumferential surface in a roller body 77, and the circumferential surface excluding the cut-circle part 79 is press-contacted with the paper. The end on the rotational direction E side of the circumferential conveyance surface 80 is a paper feed start region 85 starting delivery of the top paper, and the end on the other side relative to the rotational direction E of the circumferential conveyance surface 80 is a paper feed end region 86 finishing the delivery of the top paper. The circumferential conveyance surface 80 includes an initial conveyance area 87 including the paper feed start region 85, and a following conveyance area 88 including the paper feed end region 86.
