<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image forming apparatus which decides whether the printing data received can be processed or not, and when decided not to be processed, which controls the printing data no to be processed, and to provide a method for controlling it. <P>SOLUTION: Even when a page description language or the kind of a file format for the received printing data is not carried in the image forming apparatus, the page description language or the kind of the file format of the printing data is decided.
