When a lever 19, Fig. 1, pivoted one one of the plate-supporting beams 10, Fig. 2, of a filter press, is moved counter-clockwise by an operating lever 28, a cruciform lever 21 rotates clockwise, and by a pin and slot connection 22, 22a, Fig. 1, urges a ratchet casing 23, Fig. 3, clockwise, whereby an internally-threaded bush 15 keyed to the ratchet wheel 24 is also urged clockwise by a pawl 26, and a threaded spindle 17 within bush 15 and contacting a displaceable cover 12 moves the cover 12 inwards. To open the press, pawl 25 is engaged and pawl 26 is disengaged by movement of a lever 27 on the ratchet casing 23, the ratchet casing is reorientated through 180 degrees, the pin and slot connection 22, 22a is transferred to arm 29 of cruciform lever 21 and lever 20 is moved clockwise (by operating lever 28 transferred thereto) to effect the unscrewing (release) stroke. A hand wheel 18 is provided on bush 15 to move cover 12 by hand. |
