PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a shift-by-wire gear shift device for a vehicle capable of having a feeling of shift operation when a user operates a knob for shift operation.

SOLUTION: The shift-by-wire gear shift device includes a fixed part 10 and a knob 20. The knob 20 is moved relative to the fixed part 10 for shift operation. The device further includes a haptic device 30 that provides the user with a feeling of shift operation when the user operates the knob 20. The haptic device 30 is workable between the knob 20 and the fixed part 10 and is mountable inside the knob 20. The haptic device 30 includes an outer surface 31 fitted into the knob 20. A follower finger 32 is biased by a spring in the fixed part 10 towards the outer surface 31.
