<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an apparatus for monitoring the periphery of a vehicle, which can suitably combine an auxiliary line with an image and can display the synthetic image even when the configuration of the apparatus is comparatively simplified. Ž<P>SOLUTION: The apparatus for monitoring the periphery of a vehicle includes: a pair of imaging means 5a, 5b for imaging the periphery of the vehicle 1; an auxiliary line storage means for storing a first auxiliary line to be combined with one image out of images picked up by the pair of imaging means 5a, 5b; an auxiliary line generation means for generating a second auxiliary line to be combined with the other image; an acquisition means for acquiring a pair of images picked up by the pair of imaging means 5a, 5b; a determination means for adopting one image out of the pair of obtained images as a determination target and determining whether the image adopted as the determination target is an image around a left wheel 3a or right wheel 3b; a synthetic means for respectively combining the first and second auxiliary lines with the pair of images based on the determination result of the determination means; and a display means for displaying at least one synthetic image out of a pair of synthetic images respectively combined with the first and second auxiliary lines.
