PURPOSE: Friction materials and wet friction materials are provided to obtain excellent heat resistance and a high friction coefficient, to maintain frictional properties even in very high temperature auto transmission, and to have excellent durability. CONSTITUTION: A method for manufacturing friction materials comprises the following steps: manufacturing a paper raw material using cylindrical diatom powder 37~71 weight%, raw cotton, and aramid fiber 5~27 weight%; performing a paper making process using 1~20 weight% of filler(diatomite / graphite); performing an impregnation process by mixing a phenol resin of a novolac type and alcohol; and drying and hardening an extruded material after compressing the impregnated material.
