PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a process for preparing an enantiomer of a cyclopentene derivative of formula XVI or XVII (wherein R1 is 1-4C alkyl, 1-4C alkoxy, aryl, or aryloxy), which is an intermediate for synthesizing (1S, 4R)- or (1R, 4S)-4-(2-amino-6-chloro-9H-purine-9-yl)-2-cyclopentene-1-methanol easily at a low cost and economically. SOLUTION: In the process for preparing an enantiomer of a cyclopentene derivative, the cyclopentene derivative is converted into (1S, 4R)- or (1R, 4S)-1-amino-4-(hydroxymethyl)-2-cyclopentene by using a microorganism capable of utilizing a racemic cyclopentene derivative as a sole nitrogen source and/or a sole carbon source or by using an enzyme having N-acetylamino alcohol hydrolase activity or the like, and then is cyclized.
