<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To solve the problems in conventional thermal transfer printing apparatuses that an installation space increases when a treatment device is a different body in a method for treating an ink ribbon for the prevention of deciphering of personal information and the other information left on the used ink ribbon, that the printing apparatus becomes large when the treatment device is built in the printing apparatus, and of the prevention of dust, chemical treatment, countermeasures against fire outbreak, etc. depending on methods when the treatment device is built in the printing apparatus. Ž<P>SOLUTION: In addition to the forwarding movement at the time of normal printing of the ink ribbon 106 originally equipped in the printing apparatus, fast forwarding and rewinding movements are prepared. An original printing image is divided in a forwarding direction at the time of printing by combining these movements, and the use points of the ink ribbon normally continuously used are changed. Image information left on the ink ribbon is turned to a random order and cannot be recovered to the original image unless the changing method is finely analyzed.
