PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide capability for selecting a program from a video tape to a user, in an electronic guide product. SOLUTION: Once a program has successfully been taped, a message is displayed, and it is notified to a viewer that a program has been recorded. (e.g. "You taped Xxxxx; have you watched it ?") Information comprising information that shows are recorded. A particular program (show) is taped, and a viewer characteristic allows that an advertisement targeted to the viewer who typically records a program of a prescribed form can be provided. In some embodiment, when permitting the advertisement, the display of a memo is conditioned (for example, on the basis of a data piece which is transferred together with other data related to the program), and then, the memo can be sold to a broad cast station which has been transferred the program.
