An aluminium window frame 1 has a peripheral abutment portion 6 bearing, through a mastic cushioning material 7, upon the outside face 2a of a window surround 2 and a peripheral oblique integral lip 8 forming a channel 9 and a retaining member in the form of an endless band 10 of solid rubber engaged behind the lip 8 to exert pressure on the lip and on the inside face 2b of the window surround 2 to draw the abutment portion 6 tightly against the outside face 2a. In the alternative arrangement shown in Fig. 4, the band 10 is replaced by a metal loop 11 pre-bent into shape and has opposed ends 11 a; 11b, provided one with a left-hand and the other with a right-hand external screw thread connected by a coupling screw device 12. In the arrangement of Fig. 5, the retaining member comprises a wedge bar 14 inserted and secured behind the peripheral lip 8 in the groove 13 and has a portion 14a beyond the groove pressing against the face 2b. The portion 14a may be rebated to fit over an edge of an inside finisher panel when provided. |
