<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a camera system for easily obtaining a confirmation image of the effect of flash even when using a multiple lamp flash unit. <P>SOLUTION: When a release operation is performed during a simulation mode, data for imaging required to prepare a simulation image is passed from a camera 100 to external flash units 200a, 200b and 200c. Thereafter, after a quick return mirror is moved to an up position, imaging by an imaging element 119 is executed so as to be synchronized with light emission by the respective external flash units 200a, 200b and 200c, and imaging by the imaging element 119 is executed so as to be synchronized in the state that all the external flash units 200a, 200b and 200c are not emitting light thereafter.
