PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a liquid crystal display having improved contrast ratio by solving problems of luminance change and color change due to change of viewing direction. SOLUTION: An image display device 100 is the liquid crystal display which includes a liquid crystal display part 116 and an image processing part 105 supplying the liquid crystal display part with an image signal input from an image source. In the liquid crystal display, the liquid crystal display part 116 is configured by laminating a single sheet of first liquid crystal display element 113 and a single sheet or a plurality of sheets of second liquid crystal display elements 114, and the image processing part produces a driving signal for displaying an image based on processing for extracting the maximum value of relative gradation or relative transmittance in the base point dot 500 and a dot group in a prescribed area adjoining the base point dot while using each dot of the image signal as the base point, with respect to each dot of the second liquid crystal display element.
