<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To reduce the widthwise dimension of a cleaner body while preventing the cleaner body from damaging or catching the furniture. Ž<P>SOLUTION: The vacuum cleaner includes an upper body 7 provided with a motor-driven blower housing chamber 7a for housing a motor-driven blower 6 and a dust collecting part housing chamber 7b for housing a dust collecting part 5 collecting dust, a wheel base 40 provided with a plurality of wheels 2a and 2b, and a damping mechanism 4 for resiliently supporting the upper body 7 on the wheel base 40 in vertical and horizontal directions. By the damping mechanism 4, an impact when the cleaner body 1 collides with an obstacle such as furniture is absorbed and the cleaner is prevented from damaging or catching the furniture or the like.
