<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a restart control device of an engine capable of reliably restarting an idle-controlled vehicle after the vehicle is automatically stopped. Ž<P>SOLUTION: When the stepped state of a clutch pedal is detected by a first clutch switch 12, the stepped state of the clutch pedal is detected by a second clutch switch 13 until a clutch is disengaged. When the failure of a neutral position sensor 16 for detecting that a transmission lever is at the neutral position is detected, the requirements for restarting the engine are satisfied, and the engine is restarted. Even if the neutral position sensor fails, the engine in the state of idle stop can be restarted according to the operated states of the first clutch switch 12 and the second clutch switch 13 which detect the stepped state of the clutch pedal.
