<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an anode active material, an anode containing this, a lithium battery which adopts this, and its manufacturing method. <P>SOLUTION: The anode active material which contains oxide of porous transition metal, the anode containing this, and the lithium battery and its manufacturing method which adopt this are provided. The anode active material contains the oxide of porous transition metal. The anode active material is the oxide of one or more kinds of porous transition metal which are selected from the group consisting of Mo, Ti, V, and W.
