PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an imaging apparatus including imaging elements and a phase difference detection unit, and having improved convenience in the case of performing various processing using the imaging elements, and also, in the case of detecting a phase difference using the phase difference detection unit. SOLUTION: The camera 100 includes: an interchangeable lens 7 that forms an optical image of an object; the main imaging element 10a for photoelectrically converting the object image to an electric signal; the sub-imaging element 10b for photoelectrically converting the optical image to an electric signal, and configured to pass the light; a sub-mirror 46b for guiding the light from the interchangeable lens 7 into either of a direction toward the main imaging element 10a or a direction toward the sub-imaging element 10b; and the phase difference detection unit 20 that receives the light passing through the sub-imaging element 10b and detects the phase difference.
