Collecting oral mucosal cells and/or -cell fragments from patients, comprises: allowing the patient to chew a water-insoluble, indigestible chewing mass, where during the chewing process the oral mucosal membrane cells and/or cell fragments are absorbed in the chewing mass; and separating the cells and/or cell fragments from the chewing mass. Independent claims are also included for: (1) extracting DNA from the oral mucosal membrane cells and/or cell fragments, comprising collecting the oral mucosal membrane cells and/or cell fragments by the above method and extracting the DNA from the cells using the conventional method; (2) a method for carrying out a genetic analysis, comprising first collecting the oral mucosal membrane cells and/or cell fragments by the above method, extracting the DNA from the cells and cell fragments and either performing the DNA analysis or an individual gene expression analysis; and (3) a medicine-kit comprising a drug and the chewing mass.
