摘要 <P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To surely separate the sulfur content from an NOx catalyst, without affecting a person, even when a person stays near a vehicle, in an exhaust emission control device of an internal combustion engine. <P>SOLUTION: This exhaust emission control device of the internal combustion engine has the NOx catalyst arranged in an exhaust passage, a sulfur regeneration control means for performing sulfur regeneration control when necessary for separating the sulfur content adsorbed to the NOx catalyst, and a determining means for determining whether or not to be high in the possibility that a person stays near the vehicle. The sulfur regeneration control means performs the sulfur regeneration control in an ordinary mode when not determined as being high in the possibility that a person stays near the vehicle when requiring the sulfur regeneration control, and performs the sulfur regeneration control in a toxic component restraining mode of being less in a discharge quantity of a toxic component from the NOx catalyst than the ordinary mode when determined as being high in the possibility that a person stays near the vehicle. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2010,JPO&INPIT
