PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a battery holding mechanism surely holding batteries without lowering heat dissipation performance and charging capability and not limiting an arrangement place for a charger or the like in the battery holding mechanism capable of holding size AA and AAA batteries while sharing positive/negative contacts for both battery standards, and to provide a charger including the battery holding mechanism. SOLUTION: In the battery holding mechanism capable of holding size AA and AAA batteries, a positive electrode portion and a negative electrode portion include an electrode plate, a spring for energizing the electrode plate, a conductive plate connected with the electrode plate, a holding portion, and an elastic body for energizing the holding portion.
