PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a coating agent forming a hard coat film having excellent scratch resistance and the like even when the hard coat film is thin, on a base material, and to provide a hard coat member using the coating agent. SOLUTION: The coating agent includes a hydrolyzed condensate (A) of a metal alkoxide having a functional group including an unpaired electron-containing element other than an oxygen atom in one molecule and zinc ions (B). The hard coat member is formed by applying the coating agent on at least one surface of the base material and drying the resultant coating agent to form the hard coat film.
