PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a fixing device capable of securely changing the nip pressure between a heat roller and a pressure roller despite a simple configuration, and to provide an image forming apparatus having the same. SOLUTION: The fixing device 5 has the heat roller 18 and a pressure roller 19 firmly pressed against each other by a pressure mechanism 50. The fixing device 5 holds and conveys a recording material with an unfixed image carried thereon in the nip part N between the heat roller 18 and pressure roller 19. The pressure mechanism 50 has: first and second elastic members 52 and 53 biasing the pressure roller 19; and a switching member 55 that alters the nip pressure of the nip part N by releasing the pressure roller 19 from the biasing force P2 of the second elastic member 53.
