A surface structure for an article (7), wherein grooves (11) are arranged on the surface (9) of the article at spaced intervals and wherein fine ridges (21) having a diameter (d) and height (h) less than those of the grooves (11) are arranged on the surface of at least the edges (15) of each groove (11).  When a hand touches the surface (9) of the article (7), an appropriate number of ridges (21) make contact with the lines (25) on the fingertips (23).  Thus, the configuration provides the article (7) with a delicate and soft feel.
