<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a honeycomb filter in which partition walls are provided with PM collection layers having pores of a small average pore diameter and coated with a catalyst, whereby a high soot burning speed can be obtained while obtaining an effect of suppressing the increase of a pressure loss and the regeneration efficiency is improved, and which can cope with the cleaning of the exhaust gas to be generated when an engine is driven in a high-load high-speed running mode while improving the regeneration efficiency. <P>SOLUTION: The honeycomb filter is a catalyst-deposited filter made of a base material of a honeycomb structure including a plurality of cells being channels of the exhaust gas which are partitioned by the partition walls made of a porous ceramic material having a large number of pores 5. The catalyst-deposited filter includes plugging portions formed by alternately plugging one opening end and the other opening end of each of the plurality of cells.
