The invention relates to a pressure vessel (7), which can be pressure sealed by a lid (2) and forms an essentially cylindrical cooking chamber (29).  Furthermore, a steam generator (3) is provided, with which steam can be generated.  Any steam, present in the cooking chamber (29), can be condensed using a steam condenser (27) and discharged from the cooking chamber (29).  The steam generator (3) is designed to evaporate water in the cooking chamber (29).  The steam generator (27) preferably is disposed in a lower region of the cooking chamber (29), so that condensed water can flow back to the steam generator (3).  The lid (2) can be rotated using a motor (9) by means of a lever (22) for opening and closing the pressure vessel (7).  The lid (2) is mounted in the door (16) hinged to a housing (28).  In addition, a steam exhaust valve (6) is actuated using the motor (9).  The equipment is characterised by high energy efficiency and low water consumption.
