PURPOSE: A negative electrode active material, a cathode including thereof, a lithium battery using thereof, and a manufacturing method of the lithium battery are provided to improve the electric capacity per a unit mass of the active material. CONSTITUTION: A negative electrode active material contains a porous transition metal oxide which is selected from the group consisting of Mo, Ti, V and W. The porous transition metal oxide has the pore diameter of 2~50 nano meters. The pores of the porous transition metal oxide are interlinked to form a channel, and are regularly arranged. The specific surface area of the porous transition metal oxide is 50~250 square meters per gram.
