The invention suggests a device having remote access capability. The device comprises
- a connection module (210) for connecting the device (202) to a remote location (224);
- at least one component (204; 206) accessible via the remote location (224);
- a control module interfacing with the connection module (210) and the component (204; 206), said control module being adapted to access the component (204, 206) in conjunction with a communication between the control module and the remote location (224) via the connection module (210); and
- a smartcard (208) comprising a secure identification and/or authentication means. The device is characterized in that at least part of the control module is comprised in the smartcard (208).
