An imaging lens includes a front lens group disposed on the side of an object to be imaged, a rear lens group disposed on the side of an imaging device, and a liquid crystal lens disposed between the front and rear lens groups, having a liquid crystal layer sandwiched between two electrodes opposite to each other, and used for changing the distribution of the refractive index by controlling orientation of liquid crystal molecules of the liquid crystal layer by applying a voltage between the electrodes. The light beam exiting from the front lens group is made to enter the liquid crystal lens in such a way that upper and lower ones of light rays exiting from the front lens group are made parallel to the main light ray and the light beam exiting from the liquid crystal lens is focused on the imaging device by the rear lens group. With such a configuration, the liquid crystal lens used in the imaging lens resolves the degradation of the focusing performance of the peripheral rays without increasing the diameter of the liquid crystal lens.
|
