PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To safely transmit an authentication result (without being altered) from an authentication apparatus 200 to a host device 100. SOLUTION: Prescribed information (a counter value and secret information, etc.) is previously shared between the host device 100 and the authentication apparatus 200. When the authentication result is transmitted to the host device 100, the authentication apparatus 200 transmits a hash value of the information, where result information (an authentication success or an authentication failure) is combined with the sharing information, to the host device 100. When the hash value is received, the host device 100 calculates the hash value of information, where determination information (e.g., the authentication success) is combined with the sharing information, and compares the hash value with the received hash value, thereby determining whether or not the authentication is successfully performed.
