<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To improve flexibility and precision of setting of an exposure period. Ž<P>SOLUTION: A driving part which drives an imaging device counts a horizontal transfer clock by a counter, and resets a count value VCa at the start of a pulse indicative of an exposure indication of a trigger signal UG. A charge sweep-away signal ϕSUB is generated such that the imaging device sweeps electric charge away up to a count value corresponding to a predetermined period TD after the resetting of the value VCa. The count value VCb is reset after the lapse of the pulse period of the pulse indicative of the exposure indication after the start of electric charge sweep-away. When the value Vcb reaches a count value "F" after the lapse of the predetermined period TD shorter than a horizontal blanking period after the value VCb is reset, a charge reading signal ϕSG is generated so as to read electric charge by the imaging device to generate an image signal.
