<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a discharge lamp lighting device and a luminaire setting an output current symmetrical between a positive and a negative to a discharge lamp when transferring to steady operation, while relatively shortly restraining a duration of electrode heating operation. <P>SOLUTION: This discharge lamp lighting device includes a control part 3 for performing the electrode heating operation for heating an electrode of a discharge lamp La by setting a frequency of AC electric power output to the discharge lamp La higher than a frequency in the steady operation, before starting the steady operation for outputting rectangular wave AC electric power for maintaining lighting to the discharge lamp La, after stating operation for starting discharge in the discharge lamp La, when starting the discharge lamp La, and a half-wave discharge detecting part 2 for detecting half-wave discharge in the discharge lamp La. The control part 3 executes half-wave discharge improving processing for eliminating the half-wave discharge by enlarging a small peak value being a lower side peak value among peak values of respective polarities of the output current to the discharge lamp La when the half-wave discharge is detected by the half-wave discharge detecting part 2 in electrode heating operation. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2010,JPO&INPIT |
