WIRE GRID POLARIZER AND METHOD FOR MANUFACTURING THE SAME

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a wire grid polarizer which has excellent durability and high light utilizing efficiency while having simple constitution and can achieve sufficient color reproducibility and sufficient black display when disposed at a display apparatus such as a liquid crystal display apparatus.

SOLUTION: The wire grid polarizer is a composite-type wire grid polarizer which is constituted by stacking an absorption-type wire grid polarizer 1 obtained by arranging absorption-type polarizing components in a grid shape on a base material and a reflection-type wire grid polarizer 2 obtained by arranging reflection-type polarizing components in a grid shape on the base material. At least the absorption-type wire grid polarizer 1 is equipped with the base material 1c having protruding parts in a grid shape and a layer 1 constituted of the absorption-type polarizing component formed on the protruding parts of the base material 1c. Further the absorption-type polarizing component is characterized by being covered with a transparent protective film around its cross section.
