PRODUCTION OF VEGETABLE OIL FATTY ACID METHYL ESTERS BY THE CALCIUM OXIDE CATALYZED METHANOLYSIS REACTION

Invention herewith developed describes a method for production of vegetable oils fatty acid methyl esters by calcium oxide catalyzed methanolysis reaction. Before use, calcium oxide is calcined at 550°C for 2 (two) hours, and then ground. Methanolysis reaction is carried out in batch conditions under atmospheric pressure and temperatures ranging from 20 to 65°C, at methanol and oil molar ratios from 3:1 to 9:1 and at the catalyst amounts from 1 to 10 %, based on the oil weight. The fatty acid methyl esters yield for the 100 minute reaction in the presence of calcium oxide of 2,5 % based on the oil weight is 98%.
