<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To inhibit deterioration in combustion state and occurrence of misfire in retardation of ignition timing for reducing the torque of an internal combustion engine. Ž<P>SOLUTION: In an ignition timing control system for the internal combustion engine reducing the torque of the internal combustion engine by retarding an ignition timing in a prescribed operation state, when the deterioration in the combustion state or occurrence of misfire is predicted (S104) in retarding the ignition timing (S101), the ignition timing is retarded after raising combustion speed (S105, S106).
