<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain an inexpensive mechanical key and a key holder, which can display a state where the key is inserted into a key hole and is turned and which can securely prevent the display from changing in a pocket. Ž<P>SOLUTION: The key is constituted by a case body, a movable case, a lock mechanism, an indication part, and a key body. A movable case insertion hole is formed in the case body, and the movable case can make slide movement in the axial direction which is energized in the projecting direction with an energizing spring in the movable case insertion hole of the case body. A key-body insertion hole which is attached so that it can rotate in a direction at right angles to the axis is formed in the movable case. The lock mechanism consists of an engagement pin and an engagement groove. The engagement pin can lock the rotation state in the right-and-left directions of the movable case, and the engagement groove has two engagement parts which are engaged with the engagement pin. The indication part using a through-hole formed in the case body displays the rotation state in the right-and-left directions of the movable case, and the key body is inserted and fixed to the key-body insertion hole of the movable case.
